BMW K1 Head conversion

Fitting the head

First part of the project... get the head to fit. You are required to plug some of the water ways and offset some of the oil ways. Move a couple of studs and there you have it....

You can see mark has also cut the end of the rocker cover off with the mill. Next job is to make a plate to cover the end of the head/motor to keep the oil from disappearing.

For higher res photos look in the photo index.

Getting the head ready

Have to clean the head up and get it ready. The valve cleats are a fair way down in the head so Mark is making a tool to pull the valves out.

Cam Pulleys and Tensioner

Well it is really starting to look the part now...  Mark has fitted extensions to the cams and lined the pulleys up so they match the bottom pully using a dial guage. The end plate has been made to fit and is ready for a nice Mini logo to be milled into it :-)

Next job is to make a couple of cover plates to keep the oil in around the old cam and crank shaft. He is almost at the stage of pulling it all down to rebuild the bottom end. Still thinking about making some extractors and doing a little research on aftermarket computers for the EFI.
